The Costa Blanca is one of the most popular holiday regions in Spain. The area is known for its beautiful white sandy beaches and lively resorts such as Benidorm, Alicante and Calpe, as well as numerous hidden coves and dream beaches. Have you already heard of Playa Levante and Playa Poniente in Benidorm, or Playa del Portet in Moraira? These are just a few examples of the charming beaches that this region has to offer.
BENIDORM: LEVANTE BEACH AND PONIENTE BEACH
When you arrive in Benidorm, you can't miss its two largest beaches: Playa Levante and Playa Poniente.
Playa Levante is one of the most famous in the area, a beloved place with an extension of more than 2 kilometers that goes from Punta Pinet to Punta Canfali. It is known for its fine, soft sand, as well as its calm waters. Plus, it has amenities like loungers (for a fee), playgrounds, and a variety of water sports. Along the beach stretches the charming promenade of Benidorm, with numerous restaurants and cafes ideal for enjoying a drink overlooking the sea. Here you will also find many all-inclusive hotels with perfect views of the beach.
At the other end of Benidorm is Playa Poniente, the largest beach in the city with more than 2.5 kilometres in length. Next to Playa Poniente is the Paseo Marítimo, a colorful and beautiful avenue that perfectly complements this beach, which usually attracts a somewhat older crowd than Playa Levante.
MORAIRA: PORTET BEACH
Playa del Portet in Moraira is a picturesque cove with crystal clear waters and fine sand.
If you are on holiday near Moraira, you cannot miss this charming beach. It is a charming little place with several cafes where you can enjoy lunch, tapas or a drink. The beach is surrounded by beautiful villas located in the hills. After a day of sunbathing, you can explore the charming village of Moraira, with its historic castle and cozy squares.
JÁVEA: CALA AMBOLO
For adventurous travelers, Cala Ambolo in Javea is a must-see. This small, secluded cove is surrounded by cliffs and getting here can be a bit of a challenge (quite a steep hike), but once you get there, it's totally worth it. This beach is dominated by locals and there are few tourists. It is an ideal place for snorkeling. Tip: Arrive early because parking is limited. Officially known as a nudist beach, in practice most people wear bathing suits.
SANTA POLA: LISA BEACH & TAMARIT BEACH
Santa Pola is a hidden treasure along the Costa Blanca coast and offers two of the most beautiful beaches in the region: Playa Lisa and Playa Tamarit.
Playa Lisa is an extensive sandy beach, ideal for families and water sports lovers. The beach is very accessible and very clean. The sea here is calm and shallow, making it safe for swimming. In addition, it is ideal for water sports such as windsurfing. Just behind the beach is a salt flat, home to various species of birds, including flamingos.
A little further on is the wide Playa Tamarit, a quieter and more secluded beach. It's perfect if you're looking for a relaxed day away from the crowds. The beach is cleaned regularly, so it is always in pristine condition. This stretch of beach is very popular with water sports enthusiasts, sailors and kitesurfers.
ALICANTE: SAN JUAN BEACH
Playa de San Juan in Alicante is a 6-kilometre-long beach where relaxation and local atmosphere go hand in hand. Forget about tourist traps, here you can enjoy authentic Spanish bars and cafes along the promenade. Looking for peace of mind? Just walk a little further along the beach. The coconut trees offer shade, but for the full experience, rent an umbrella and sun lounger from a stand. The water is clear and shallow, ideal for families with children. The more active can go windsurfing or beach volleyball, and there's even a golf course nearby. The beach is easily accessible: 20 minutes by tram from the centre or with an inexpensive car park behind the promenade. And yes, admission is free, as it should be.
JÁVEA: EL ARENAL
El Arenal in Javea is the perfect example of an urban beach that has it all. This crescent-shaped beach is characterized by its fine, golden sand and calm, clear waters. Playa del Arenal is pretty much the only sandy beach around Javea where you can really enjoy swimming and sunbathing. Next to the beach there is a nice promenade with many shops, bars and restaurants. It is the ideal place to take an afternoon walk after a day of sunshine. In addition, it is a very suitable beach for children: there are lifeguards, the slope is gentle and there are enough play areas.
DÉNIA: LAS MARINAS
When you travel to Dénia, a charming coastal town between Valencia and Alicante, Las Marinas is one of those beaches that you simply can't miss. Las Marinas is a sandy beach that stretches miles north of the city centre of Dénia. It is a very wide and accessible beach. Even in high season, there is always enough space to place your towel. When you're here, be sure to explore the charming village of Dénia. It is one of the most pleasant and welcoming villages on the Costa Blanca.
